All Pennwriters Courses are conducted in a "live" presentation format utilizing the Zoom platform. If a conflict arises based on the required meeting times, please contact the instructor and Online Courses Coordinator to find a possible solution. ALL sessions will be recorded and will be available for students.

This intensive 3-hour workshop distills proven writer's block breakthrough techniques into one transformative afternoon. Through rapid-fire writing exercises, mini-lectures, and actionable strategies, you'll identify your unique creative obstacles and walk away with a personalized toolkit to demolish them. Expect to write, laugh, share (optionally), and leave with both words on the page and renewed confidence in your creative process.

Course Details

Transform your television series idea into a professional outline and polished first act. This intensive four-week course takes writers from initial concept through series development, structural planning, and completion of the pilot's crucial opening act.


This is Part 1 of a two-part workshop. Part 1 focuses on concept development, structure, outline completion, and writing Act One. Part 2 provides an intensive workshopping environment for completing the full teleplay and preparing professional marketing materials (pitch bible and pitch deck). Each part combines weekly on-demand video lessons with supplemental materials, weekly activities to explore the medium's techniques, and live Zoom sessions for workshopping works-in-progress and Q&A. Writers may take Part 1 as a standalone course or continue into Part 2 to complete their pilot and prepare it for market.



February/March Online Class: Writing and Marketing the Television Pilot: Part 2

Course Details

Complete your television pilot teleplay in a structured workshop environment and prepare it for professional submission. This six-week intensive focuses on finishing Acts Two through Five through weekly page workshops, developing marketing materials (pitch bible and deck), and learning industry navigation strategies.


This is Part 2 of a two-part workshop. It provides an intensive workshopping environment for completing the full teleplay and preparing professional marketing materials (pitch bible and pitch deck). It combines weekly on-demand video lessons with supplemental materials, weekly activities to explore the medium's techniques, and live Zoom sessions for workshopping works-in-progress and Q&A.


Prerequisite: Part 2 is open to those who took Part 1 OR with instructor approval.
